The Ambassador

Amb. Carlos Jiménez Licona

Amb. Carlos Jiménez Licona began his post as the ambassador of Republic of Guatemala to Germany on the 10th of March 2011.

Amb. Licona obtained his Master’s Degree both in Industrial Settlement and Development and in Economic Development at Free University of Brussels, Belgium. He also has a Diploma in Economics from University of San Carlos, Guatemala.

Amb. Licona was the Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of San Carlos, Guatemala for two years from 1976-1978. In 1979, he was the Professor and Head of Department of Social Sciences, University of San Carlos, Guatemala until 1980. From 1987 to 1989, Licona was the Economic Advisor in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. His position as ambassador began with his post in the Kingdom of the Netherlands from 1989-1992.

From 1992-1993 Licona was the Deputy Foreign Secretary of Guatemala and from 1993-1994 he was the Advisor of the Central American Secretariat for Economic Integration-SIECA, within the framework of the Project for Technical Cooperation of the development program of the United Nations-PNUD.

From 1994 to 1995 Licona was the Advisor of the SIECA, as part of a program for institutional aid of the European Union and for the time period between 1995 and 1998 Amb. Licona was the Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden with additional accreditation in the Republic of Finland. In 2000, Amb. Licona held the post as Advisor to the Foreign Ministry of Guatemala and he was the Ambassador to Canada until 2007.
