At the end of July, Deputy Chief of Mission Alan Meltzer has assumed duty as U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Germany. In this capacity, Chargé Meltzer will serve as Chief of Mission and as the senior-most U.S. government official in Germany.

“It is an honor to lead our teams in our Embassy in Berlin and at our five consulates across Germany. Germany is our indispensable ally and partner with whom we work closely every day on virtually every single challenge the world is facing. It is because of that good work that the U.S.-German relationship today is stronger than ever. I look forward to carrying that forward.”, said Meltzer in a public statement.

Since his term started, Meltzer has been actively meeting with representatives of various institutions and embassies in Germany.

One of his first official meetings was with Simone Menne, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany, with the goal of strengthening transatlantic trade and economic cooperation.

Additionally, Meltzer has been quick to reinstate the stance of the US with respect to on-going conflicts such as the wars in Gaza and Ukraine.

On the 8th of August he met with Ron Prosor, the Israeli Ambassador to Germany, to reaffirm American commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and proxy terrorist groups.

In the same week, Meltzer attended the German Navy’s reception in Warnemünde, emphasizing the US support for Baltic partners and the need for cooperation to combat Putin’s aggression and ambitions in the region.

Most recently, on the 13th of July, Meltzer joined the commemoration of the victims who lost their life in an attempt to flee over the Berlin Wall between 1961 and 1989. The ceremony took place in Bernauer Straße on the 63th anniversary of the building of the wall. It was organized by Stiftung Berliner Mauer.

"The U.S. stands with our German partners in the important task of ensuring that the memory of those lost as a result of this wall is never forgotten.", said Meltzer.
