News from Berlin - Last week saw a working group session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) convene in Berlin. The meeting, which lasted from April 7th to April 12th, was organized to discuss current climate change issues, as well as possible targets and goals to strive towards.

On Sunday, the panel released a summary of the conclusions and recommendations of the working group session. Here, it was stated that governments are not doing enough to curb emissions and that more affirmative action is needed. In line with this train of thought, it was stated that by 2050, annual emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases must drop by 40-70 percent in order to keep the global temperature rise below the 2-degree Celsius mark.

Overall, the scientists and other participants in the session advocated increased international cooperation to streamline processes and follow a concerted effort to combat climate change and environmental degradation. For this, it has been suggested to innovate in the areas of economy and energy efficiency in order to find cleaner ways and practices. This appeal is directed at politicians and policy makers, as well as investors, corporations and entrepreneurs.
