June 20th, 2024The 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, is the 17th ongoing edition of the UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international football championship organized by UEFA European Men's National Teams. Germany hosts the 2024 tournament, which runs from June 14th 2024 to July 14th, 2024. The tournament features 24 European teams, that are supported by their embassies in Berlin.
This is the third time that the European Championship games have been held on German soil and the second time in reunified Germany, as West Germany hosted the 1988 edition of the tournament, and four matches of the multinational Euro 2020 were held in Munich. This is the first time the competition has been held in what was formerly East Germany with Leipzig as the host city, as well as the first major tournament since the 2006 World Cup that reunified Germany serves as the solo host nation. The tournament has returned to its regular four-year cycle, after the 2020 edition was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Italy is the defending champion, having won the 2020 tournament against England on penalties in the final. EURO 2024 is Germany's first major tournament as hosts since the 2006 FIFA World Cup and fixtures at this summer's showpiece event are taking place in ten host cities including the capital, Berlin. Host cities include: Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dortmund, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf.
