Recalling the Idea of Serenity through Spanish Eyes
August 04th, 2014
News from Berlin - The well-known Mexican poet Octavio Paz had it right when he said that “happiness is a chair under the sun”. Until the 16th of August Stadtbibliothek Steglitz-Zehlendorf in Berlin acts as a multicultural space, in which Spanish artist Juan Carlos Cabrejas tries to recreate the global idea of serenity.
His photography project “Serenity - In Gedanken versunken” that is being exhibited in the Berlin library is related to the peaceful happiness that the poet Paz admired so greatly. To have an idea of what is on display at the library, Cabrejas uploaded parts of his work to his personal blog, www.cabrejas.blogspot.de. Most of the pictures in the Serenity series are of normal people engrossed in reading in public, giving a unique insight in different reading habits.
On its webpage, the Embassy of Spain in Berlin also mentions the exhibition by recalling Cabrejas’ words about the project: “As long as people still read books printed on paper in the streets, I will continue to do these photo series. I think that it is therefore very fitting that the exhibition takes place in a library.”
The Serenity series can be seen in Stadtbibliothek Steglitz-Zehlendorf from 10.00 to 20.00 from Monday until Friday, and is also on display on Saturday from 12.00 to 16.00.
