Celebrating Pakistan Independence Day

News from Berlin – To celebrate the 68th Pakistani Independence Day, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan Embassy on Thursday, the 14th of August in Berlin. Ambassador Syed Hasan Javed lifted the national flag with the national anthem playing in the background. The event was attended by members of the Pakistani community residing in the German capital and the officials of the Embassy with their families.

During the ceremony, the Ambassador congratulated the Pakistani community living in Germany on the occasion. He said the Muslims of the subcontinent made a great struggle under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah for a separate homeland. He highlighted the need to maintain unity, faith and discipline, n order to make Pakistan a strong and prosperous country, as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

Earlier, the Head of Chancery, Sajjad Haider Khan, read out Independence Day messages from the President and the Prime Minister. Children of expatriate Pakistanis and officials of the Embassy presented a colorful programme, which included a speech contest, the singing of national songs and a quiz programme about the Movement for an independent Pakistan and its various Post-Independence phases. It was much appreciated by the audience. Ambassador Syed Hasan Javed gave away gifts to the participating children at the end of the programme.

In Pakistan, Independence Day is celebrated in a special way throughout the country. Many people who attend the Independence Day parades dress up in green and white, representing the colors of the Pakistani flag. The day is also a time to meet relatives, exchange gifts and visit recreational spots.
