Visit to the 2026 Olympic Winter Games

Federal President Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender travel to Italy from 6 to 8 February

On 6 February, in Milan, Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella has welcomed the Federal President and Ms Büdenbender, along with other heads of state and government. In the evening, they attended the opening ceremony of the 25th Olympic Winter Games Milan Cortina 2026 together.

On 7 February, the Federal President will visit the Olympic Village in Milan, where he will speak with German athletes. He will then attend the women’s ice hockey match between Germany and Japan. In the afternoon, he will meet participants of the German Olympic Youth Camp, which is being held in Milan during the Games.

The third day of the visit will be entirely devoted to sporting events. The Federal President will first attend the women’s alpine skiing events in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The visit will conclude with the biathlon competition in Antholz.
