On February 14th, 2025, the German Embassy in Hanoi officially launched the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Established on September 23, 1975, this partnership has grown steadily over the decades, shaped by cultural, economic, and political collaboration, as well as countless personal ties between the two nations.

At a press conference held at the Goethe-Institut Hanoi, German Ambassador Helga Margarete Barth presented the program of activities planned for the anniversary year. She was joined by Vietnamese and international media representatives, German organizations active in Vietnam, and cultural partners.

The event highlighted the diverse and inclusive nature of the celebrations, which aim not only to reflect on five decades of friendship but also to explore future opportunities for cooperation in areas such as education, innovation, and sustainable development.

Among the key highlights is Berlin im Licht – Berlin Rực Sáng, a gala concert taking place on February 28th, 2025, at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House. The evening will feature performances by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet, Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO), conducted by Lê Ha My, alongside German soprano Katharine Mehrling, Vietnamese soprano Phạm Khánh Ngọc, and pianist Ferdinand von Seebach. A similar event is scheduled in Hanoi on February 21st.

In addition to cultural events, the German Career Truck will embark on a nationwide tour from April to November 2025. This mobile initiative will provide information about education, career opportunities, and safe migration pathways to Germany, stopping in cities such as Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Can Tho.

One of the most anticipated events is the German Festival, to be held at Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi from September 19th to 21st. The festival will celebrate German-Vietnamese development cooperation and feature exhibitions, panel discussions, and interactive presentations from German institutions and companies. Musical performances, culinary offerings, and activities for young people will complete the program.

The anniversary program also includes a writing contest titled “Ambassador for a Day”, a street art event called #50VietDuc – Our Wall is Your Canvas, and a signing ceremony between the German Bundesliga and the Vietnamese Football Federation.

Ambassador Barth emphasized the importance of these initiatives in deepening mutual understanding and fostering new connections. “This anniversary is both a celebration of our joint achievements and a platform to shape the future of our partnership,” she remarked during the press conference.
