Vice Premier Ding and President Keller-Sutter on the significance of the bilateral relations between the two nations
February 14th, 2025On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang met with Karin Keller-Sutter, president of the Swiss Confederation and head of the Federal Department of Finance, as well as Guy Parmelin, vice president of the Federal Council and head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research.
This year celebrates the 75th anniversary of China's diplomatic relations with Switzerland. Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang emphasised that the bilateral relationship between the two nations serves as a model of mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation among countries with different social systems, developmental stages, and sizes. He also urged the two sides to implement the important consensus reached by the two countries' leaders, deepen political mutual trust, continue to carry forward the China-Switzerland cooperation spirit of "equality, innovation, and win-win," and advance the China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership to continuously break new ground.
He emphasised Switzerland's unique position in international and regional affairs as a perpetually neutral country that hosts several international organisations.
Karin Keller-Sutter, president of the Swiss Confederation and head of the Federal Department of Finance, cherished Switzerland's close relation with China, hoping to collaborate together on the innovative strategic partnership.
Switzerland and China both support free trade and oppose protectionism, she added, emphasising that the achievement of the Switzerland-China free trade agreement demonstrates that mutual benefit can be gained via openness and collaboration. She went on to say that Switzerland is prepared to expand practical collaboration with China in order to achieve economic development and prosperity by strengthening the free trade agreement. Parmelin stated that Switzerland and China have complementary economic advantages and vast mutual interests, indicating a significant potential for collaboration in innovation, finance, higher education, and vocational training.
