Upcoming Berlin International Poetry Festival
May 22nd, 2014
News from Berlin – Every summer since 2000, Berlin hosts the Poesiefestival Berlin, a weeklong event where 100 to 200 artists perform all types of poem, from the traditional book and verse poetry, to the more contemporary forms, experimenting with other mediums such as theatre, dance, and even digital media. Through its mix of genres and plethora of artists, the Poesiefestival allows visitors to sample all kinds of poetry, to familiarize themselves with this art form, or simply rediscover this art, which is often made out to be antiquated. The Poesiefestival, as is declared on the official website,“demonstrates what power poetry has to inspire”.
Every year, the festival sees between 8 000 and 10 000 visitors in the course of its weeklong events. Participating poets have in the past included recognized names, such as Paul Muldoon, Derek Walcott, and Durs Grünbein. Through its multicultural mosaic of artists, hailing from all over the world, the festival is also an opportunity for the creative minds of the world to meet and connect as ambassadors of their own culture, forming cultural exchanges through the artistic expression.
