UNESCO Launches Youth for Peace Intercultural Leadership Programme
An Initiative for Dialogue and Peace in an AI-driven World

UNESCO has launched the second edition of its Youth for Peace: UNESCO Intercultural Leadership Programme, an initiative that aims to strengthen intercultural dialogue as a foundation for peacebuilding and inclusive leadership. This programme explores how emerging leaders can address the social and technological challenges of an increasingly interconnected world through dialogue, community engagement and international cooperation.
Artificial Intelligence is transforming how people communicate, learn, work, and engage across cultures to create new opportunities for participation, education, and connection. However, these profound changes also raise urgent questions about trust, inclusion and equality. The programme encourages participants to explore how dialogue can help ensure that technological innovation strengthens intercultural understanding rather than deepening existing divisions.
Programme participants will explore how AI is reshaping intercultural relationships and social cohesion, engaging with challenges including: misinformation, hate speech, and online polarisation; algorithmic bias, stereotyping, and digital discrimination; unequal access to technology, infrastructure, education, and digital skills; and the underrepresentation of diverse cultures, languages, and knowledge systems within AI. At the same time, participants will examine how AI can advance intercultural understanding through multilingual communication, accessibility, civic participation, cultural preservation, conflict prevention, and new forms of cross-border collaboration.
UNESCO provides a three-stage pathway that combines theoretical training with practical activities. Participants attend interactive workshops focusing on intercultural mediation, conflict transformation, and strategic communication. Upon completing the training, participants receive USD 10,000 in seed funding to design and implement local initiatives that explore the programme’s annual theme, using dialogue as their primary method. To support these efforts, UNESCO provides mentorship and opportunities to engage in global discussions - specifically within the framework of the "UNESCO Global Youth Dialogue for Peace" initiative.
