UN Chinese Language Day in Vienna

Ambassador Min Thein attended the UN Chinese Language Day celebration and reception on ASEAN-China cooperation

On May 6th, 2024, Ambassador Min Thein, Myanmar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, attended the UN Chinese Language Day celebration and cultural event held at the Vienna International Centre. Later in the evening, he also participated in the ASEAN-China Cooperation Reception hosted by the Permanent Mission of China.

The UN Chinese Language Day event was organized by the Permanent Mission of China in order to honour the importance of the Chinese language and its cultural heritage. During the ASEAN-China Cooperation Reception, notable speeches were delivered by the Permanent Representative of China, the Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre, the Deputy Governor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the Permanent Representatives of Malaysia, Myanmar, and the Philippines.

In his speech, the Myanmar Permanent Representative expressed his pride in the successful and grand celebration of UN Chinese Language Day. He highlighted the significant political, economic, cultural, and social ties between ASEAN and China. Ambassador Min Thein emphasized Myanmar's role as the coordinator for ASEAN-China dialogue relations from 2021 to 2024 and mentioned the upcoming handover of this responsibility to Malaysia in July. He underscored the importance of continued cooperation between ASEAN and China in various sectors for mutual benefit.
