On September 15th, the meeting between the Tunisian Ambassador to Germany Wacef Chiha and Mrs. Najla Lahiani, a member of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, took place as part of her participation in the project "Promoting Political and Economic Participation of Women in the MENA Region." This project, organized by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), will be held in Germany from September 15 to 21, 2024. Mrs. Lahiani’s involvement in this initiative underscores Tunisia's active participation in international efforts to enhance women's roles in both political and economic spheres, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

During the meeting, which took place at the Tunisian Embassy in Berlin, the Ambassador and Mrs. Lahiani engaged in discussions on various topics of mutual interest. One of the key highlights was the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in reinforcing the ties between Tunisia and Germany. They underscored how parliamentary diplomacy serves as a bridge for fostering greater understanding, dialogue, and cooperation between the legislative bodies of both nations. It plays a vital role in addressing global challenges, enhancing cooperation on development projects, and promoting democratic principles.

Additionally, the conversation emphasized the strategic need to invigorate the activities of the German-Tunisian Parliamentary Friendship Group. Both parties recognized that this group holds significant potential for furthering bilateral relations by facilitating exchanges between lawmakers from both countries. Strengthening the group's work could lead to enhanced collaboration in areas such as economic development, political reforms, education, and gender equality.

Mrs. Lahiani’s participation in the GIZ-organized project was also discussed in the broader context of advancing women's empowerment in Tunisia. As a parliamentary representative, her engagement in such international programs reinforces Tunisia’s commitment to gender equality, which has been a central focus of the country's reform agenda in recent years. The meeting provided a platform for Mrs. Lahiani to exchange experiences and best practices with her counterparts from other countries in the MENA region, fostering greater regional cooperation in the pursuit of women’s empowerment.
