From December 2024 to June 2025, the Australian Embassy in Berlin will host Through Our Eyes: Climate Change in Focus, an exhibition that merges art, activism, and diplomacy to address one of the most pressing global challenges—climate change.

The exhibition stems from the #EverydayClimateCrisis Visual Petition, led by Australian photographer Hilary Wardhaugh, which gathered 1,247 images and personal statements from Australian women and non-binary individuals. Presented to the Australian Parliament in 2022, this initiative cemented climate advocacy in the nation's official record and showcased the power of citizen engagement in shaping environmental policy. Now, through diplomatic channels, this message extends beyond Australia’s borders, emphasizing the role of international cooperation in addressing the climate crisis.

Diplomacy plays a crucial role in fostering dialogue, building alliances, and driving sustainable policies. By hosting this exhibition, the Australian Embassy in Berlin reinforces Australia’s commitment to climate diplomacy—engaging in global conversations on environmental action, adaptation, and resilience. These images serve as a powerful testament to how climate change transcends national borders, affecting landscapes, communities, and livelihoods worldwide. The exhibition not only highlights personal narratives of loss and adaptation but also underscores Australia's broader efforts to work with international partners in achieving carbon neutrality, investing in renewable energy, and supporting climate-vulnerable regions.

This unique exhibition, made possible by Hilary Wardhaugh’s vision, is displayed in the embassy’s foyer and is open to visitors Monday to Friday, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Those interested in attending can register by contacting info.berlin@dfat.gov.au. Through Our Eyes: Climate Change in Focus is more than a collection of images—it is a diplomatic statement, fostering cross-border awareness and encouraging collaborative solutions. As climate change continues to reshape global landscapes, cultural diplomacy initiatives like this one play a vital role in strengthening international cooperation for a sustainable future.
