Theme Week about Cyprus
A series of cultural events organized by the Embassy of Cyprus in Germany
July 02nd, 2024Between the 17th and the 23rd of June 2024, the Embassy of Cyprus in Germany has inaugurated the theme week about Cyprus, in collaboration with the Neues Museum in Berlin.
The event was organized to commemorate a milestone in modern history, namely the 20th anniversary of Cyprus' accession to the EU. There was no better way or more suitable place to celebrate 20 years of EU membership, as well as the deep-rooted and long-standing cultural relations between Cyprus and Germany.
Among other things, the museum has offered special tours of the Cyprus Hall on June 19 at 3:00 p.m., June 22 at 1:00 p.m. and June 23 at 1:00 p.m.
In the presence of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Kassianidou and as part of the Neue Museum theme week about Cyprus, the book "The Topography of Ancient Idalion and its Territory", edited by Stephan G. Schmid and Will M. Kennedy, has be presented at James-Simon-Galerie on 18.06.2024 at 2 PM.
Parallel to the book launch, a presentation on the use of 3D models in Cypriot archaeology has taken place in the foyer of the James-Simon-Galerie. The event was held partly in German and partly in English.
The Embassy was delighted to announce the possibility of a free entry to all 5 Cypriot films that were viewed during the week of the Neues Museum dedicated to Cyprus, at the Auditorium der James-Simon-Galerie.
The premier of the short film "OPERATION MUSEUM" (19/06, 15:00) took place in the presence of the Minister of Culture Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou and there was also a Q&A with the film's Director Petros Charalambous.
On the 17th of June the Embassy & the New Museum jointly organized and event in order to reopen the "Cyprus Hall".
The Minister of Culture Lina Kassianidou had the honour of speaking at the ceremony for the re-opening of the Cyprus Gallery at the Neues Museum, Germany. The Cyprus Gallery provides the opportunity to the thousands of visitors of the Museum to get a glimpse of Cypriot archaeology and ancient culture and to learn more about the island and its millennia-old history.
German Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth was also present at the celebrations. Bilateral meeting between the two ministers have taken place.
The event at the Neues Museum concluded with Cyprus wine and musical accompaniment by Eleni Era, a Cypriot living in Germany. The Embassy was deeply grateful to the Neues Museum for its generous hosting and co-organization of the entire event.
