The Vicious Circle of Words - The Life of Herta Müller
June 20th, 2014
News from Berlin- The Museum of Literature in Sarajevo presents the exhibition “Der Teufelskreis der Wörter" (The Vicious Circle of Words) based on the life of Herta Müller, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature which she received during the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony at the Concert Hall in Stockholm in 2009. She writes short stories, novels, poems and essays, related to the experience of oppression, of exile and the conforming to family and state. The exhibition has earlier been shown at the Goethe Institute in Oslo and the turn has now come to Sarajevo.
The exhibition tells the dramatic and fascinating life story of the Romanian-German writer, her work, struggles, family situation and strong political engagement. Focus for the exhibition is the writers literary works, but it also tells the story about her life, starting with the childhood and ends with her receiving the Nobel prize in Literature. Documentaries and photographies of the writers family will be shown, as well as commentaries of friends and colleagues regarding her political engagement. A TV-interview where the writer herself talks about her life and her perspective on what is motivating her in her work will show a up until now fairly unknown side of Herta Müller.
