The Schiller Theater Will Host the 20th Edition of the Festival Days Berlin
International Opera Stars and the State Orchestra "Staatskapelle Berlin" Come Together to Make the Schiller Theater a Special Venue Where the Classical Music Fill Up the Atmosphere
February 23rd, 2016From the 18th until the 28th of March, Festival Days Berlin will present a fascinating contrast in the form of two major works from opera’s history: the new production of Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice and the re-staging of Wagner’s Parsifal. In particular, Orfeo ed Euridice combines a large number of reform approaches focusing on the natural and authentic expression of the characters, overcoming the traditional “opera seria”. Gluck’s work tells the story of the Orpheus myth, which has repeatedly been the subject of operas since the beginning of this genre, however this time in a completely new way.
The Festival, which will be held at the Schiller Theater and at the Philharmonie of Berlin, will be conducted by the creator of the event, Daniel Barenboim. The Staatsoper theatre manager Jürgen Flimm will be staging Gluck's reformed opera, and Dmitri Tcherniakov will be performing Wagner's monumental "festival drama for consecrating the stage" in its scenic version. The Festival will hold five concerts, covering the period from Bach through to the period of late Romanticism. Martha Argerich, Yo-Yo Ma and Jonas Kaufmann are the soloists who will be performing with Daniel Barenboim along with the two orchestras Wiener Philharmoniker and Staatskapelle Berlin.
Festival Days Berlin is an opera festival launched by Daniel Barenboim twenty years ago, and every Easter it has attracted large audiences to the Staatsoper and the Philharmonie. This year the event will be moved to the Schiller Theater, due to construction work at the Staatsoper. Festival Days Berlin has become a festival of enormous appeal, which has attracted audiences from Berlin, greater Germany and from all over the world. The success of the Festival is due to the extraordinary artistic quality of the events and performances, the top artists on the opera stage and in the concert halls, and finally, to the ingenious way the program is composed with pieces that complement each other well.
