The Philippines at Berlin’s Global Children's Book Fair
Showcasing Filipino storytelling and fostering cross-cultural understanding through children’s literature
April 15th, 2025The Divan Arabic Culture House held the first "Global Children's book fair" from 11 to 13 April 2025. The purpose of this event is to draw attention to how children's books may promote cross-cultural understanding.
To provide young people in Berlin with access to a variety of stories, the fair brought together embassies and cultural institutions from across the city. The program featured a mix of readings, calligraphy workshop, and interactive for children.
As an exhibitor, the Philippine Embassy proudly promoted Philippine literature and culture in Germany. Visitors were given an insight into the depth of Philippine storytelling customs and the expanding corpus of modern literature for young readers through the Embassy's carefully chosen collection of Filipino children's books. The Embassy's booth served as a window into the country’s rich literary traditions, reflecting its values, imagination, and cultural identity.
The Embassy's participation in the Berlin’s Global Children’s Book Fair (Kinderbuchmesse) is part of a larger network of literary diplomacy and cultural exchanges. It advances inclusive, multilingual, and globally engaged cultural dialogue while bolstering ongoing efforts to generate interest and momentum for the Philippines' spotlight year at one of the most prominent publishing events in the world, the Frankfurt Book Fair.
