The Philippine embassy commemorates 60 years of Philippine-German relations
May 28th, 2014
News from Berlin – The diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Germany were officially established on October 8th 1954. 60 years later the Philippine embassy in Berlin, in cooperation with the Director for Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific of the Federal Foreign Office, issues a stamp in order to celebrate this event. Designed by the Filipino digital artist Mr. Antonio Gorordo the commemorative stamp is not only conveying a symbolic meaning, but also serves a practical purpose, which is to maintain and improve the people-to-people services of the embassy by promoting the use of the postal system – an essential part of the functioning mechanism of any bilateral diplomacy.
At the official ceremony on May 14th the Philippine Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Maria Cleofe R. Natividad, emphasized the importance of perpetuating the cooperation between both countries. Her speech was followed by the formal launch of the stamp, after which there was a performance of traditional and contemporary Filipino songs by the University of the Philippines Los Baños Choral Ensemble. Their performance was very well received by the audience and beautifully concluded the launch ceremony of the commemorative stamp.
