The Ambassador

H.E. Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien

H.E. Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien serves as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to the Republic of Austria and as the Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna. Born on October 10, 1970, in Hoang Van Thu Commune, Hoang Mai District, Ha Noi, Mr Nguyen is fluent in English and has built an extensive career in diplomacy.

Mr. Nguyen began his professional journey in 1993 as a staff member at the Institute of Legal Science, Ministry of Justice. The following year, he joined PETEC under the Ministry of Commerce as a Desk Officer, where he worked until 1997. His career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commenced in 1997, with a role as Desk Officer in the Department of Southeast Asia, South Asia, and South Pacific, which he held until 2004.

From 2004 to 2008, Mr. Nguyen served abroad as Second Secretary and First Secretary at the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand. Upon his return to Vietnam, he became a Desk Officer in the Department of West Asia and Africa (now the Department of the Middle East and Africa) from 2008 to 2009. His diplomatic assignments continued in South Africa, where he served as Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Viet Nam from 2009 to 2013.

Between 2013 and 2017, Mr. Nguyen held the roles of Desk Officer and then Deputy Director General in the Department of West Asia and Africa. His leadership capabilities were further recognized in 2017 when he was appointed Deputy Director General (in charge of the Department). In 2018, he was promoted to Acting Director General, and from March 2019 to May 2021, he served as the Director General of the Department of the Middle East and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
