The Ambassador
Victoria Reggie Kennedy
Victoria Reggie Kennedy has been serving as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Austria since January 12, 2022. In this role, she promotes U.S. bilateral interests and priorities in Austria, working to advance and strengthen the transatlantic relationship diplomatically, culturally, and commercially. Ambassador Kennedy places a strong emphasis on engaging young people and those from diverse backgrounds, as well as empowering women and girls.
Ambassador Kennedy brings extensive private sector experience in law and business, alongside significant involvement in the non-profit sector. Her areas of focus include civic education, the arts, health care, and gun violence prevention. Before she was appointed Ambassador, she was a corporate attorney at an international law firm, advising clients on complex business problems and serving on the Board of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. She co-founded and serves as President Emerita of the Board of Directors of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate, a non-profit organization that educates the public about the U.S. system of government and inspires new generations of citizens and leaders. Additionally, she has been a vocal advocate for expanded medical research and access to health care for all Americans, actively promoting the Affordable Care Act of 2010.
Ambassador Kennedy's previous roles include serving on the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., where she chaired the Education Committee. She was also involved with the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, serving on the Board of Overseers and Education Committee. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the Board of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Furthermore, she co-founded the non-profit organization Common Sense About Kids and Guns.
Raised in Crowley, Louisiana, Ambassador Kennedy earned her B.A. degree magna cum laude from Newcomb College and her J.D. degree summa cum laude from Tulane Law School, both in New Orleans, Louisiana. She has received numerous civic awards and honours, including eight honorary degrees.
