The Ambassador

Amb. Vishnu Dhanpaul

Vishnu Dhanpaul is a Trinidad and Tobago economist, senior former public servant and diplomat. His government career included service as Permanent Secretary in major ministries, including Finance and Energy, as well as assignments connected with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. He later became High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and, in 2025, briefly served as Minister of Finance.

History

Trinidad and Tobago and the United Kingdom established diplomatic relations on 31 August 1962, the day Trinidad and Tobago became independent from Britain. The High Commission in London was one of the new state's first overseas diplomatic missions and has remained a central institution in the bilateral relationship. Historical links through the Commonwealth, migration, education, law, culture and cricket have been complemented by modern cooperation in trade, energy, security and international affairs. Both countries maintain resident high commissions and also cooperate under the CARIFORUM-UK Economic Partnership Agreement.
