The Ambassador
H.E. Ms. Patricia Ann Hermanns
H.E. Ms. Patricia Ann Hermanns has served as the Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the United Nations Office at Geneva since May 2022, when she presented her credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Hermanns had a distinguished career in the financial services sector in The Bahamas, with more than 40 years of experience in banking and insurance.
Ms. Hermanns served as Director of the National Insurance Board of The Bahamas from 2017 to 2018. She was also President and Director of Family Guardian Insurance Company and its parent company, FamGuard, and previously headed the Global Life Insurance Company from 1998 to 2002. She holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Spanish from New York University.
History
The Bahamas became a member of the United Nations on 18 September 1973, shortly after gaining independence on 10 July 1973. Since joining the UN, The Bahamas has participated actively in multilateral diplomacy, particularly on issues affecting small island developing states (SIDS), including climate change, sustainable development, ocean governance, disaster resilience, and the protection of vulnerable communities. The Bahamas has consistently used the UN platform to advocate for stronger international cooperation on issues that disproportionately affect small island states.
The Permanent Mission of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva represents The Bahamas in Geneva-based UN institutions and international organizations. The Mission advances the country’s interests in areas including human rights, humanitarian affairs, health, labour, trade, development, and environmental issues. Through its engagement in Geneva, the Mission contributes to discussions within institutions such as the Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and other Geneva-based organizations relevant to international cooperation.
