History
Austria and Poland have maintained diplomatic relations since the First Republic of Poland period, with modern diplomatic relations developing after the restoration of Polish independence in 1918. Relations were renewed after the Second World War and have expanded significantly since Poland joined the European Union in 2004.
Today, relations are considered very good and close, based on shared EU membership, economic ties, regional cooperation, and extensive cultural links. Austria is one of Poland’s important economic partners, while cooperation covers trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, security, education, and scientific exchange. Both countries also cooperate closely within European and multilateral institutions.
