H.E. Mr. Mario Raúl Cano Ricciardi
Ambassador Cano Ricciardi has developed a long diplomatic career focused particularly on international economic relations, trade negotiations and regional integration. Prior to his appointment as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, he served since October 2022 as Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the World Trade Organization and other international economic organizations based in Geneva.
Throughout his career within the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Cano Ricciardi has held several senior positions related to economic diplomacy. He served as Vice Minister of Economic Relations and Integration from 2020 to 2022, General Director for Economic Policy from 2019 to 2020, Director of the Trade Negotiations Division from 2018 to 2019, and Director of the Economic Integration Division from 2016 to 2018. He also previously served in the Ministry of Industry and Trade as Vice Minister of Trade in 2006 and Vice Minister of Industry in 2005.
Ambassador Cano Ricciardi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Catholic University of Asunción and a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in International Finance from the University of Ottawa in Canada. He has also served as an associate professor at Paraguay’s José Falcón Diplomatic and Consular Academy and at the American University of Asunción. He speaks Spanish, English, Portuguese, French and Guarani.
History
Through its presence in Geneva, the Mission works on issues addressed within the United Nations framework and specialized international organizations, including human rights, humanitarian affairs, labour matters, health, trade and international economic cooperation. Paraguay maintains diplomatic representation in Geneva both before the United Nations Office and other specialized agencies, as well as before the World Trade Organization and other economic organizations based in the city.
The Permanent Mission is located at Rue de Varembé 9–11, 1202 Geneva, Switzerland. According to the official directory of the United Nations Office at Geneva, H.E. Mr. Mario Raúl Cano Ricciardi has served as Permanent Representative of Paraguay since 26 November 2024.
