Dario Ernesto Chiru Ocho
Dario Ernesto Chiru Ochoa is a seasoned diplomat currently serving as the Permanent Representative of Panama to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), where he presented his credentials to Ghada Waly, the Director-General of UNOV, on 7th May.
Mr. Chiru Ochoa has built a distinguished career in diplomacy, marked by a series of significant appointments and roles. He has served as General Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama from 2019 to 2021, overseeing the formulation and execution of Panama's foreign policy strategies. Prior to this, he held the position of Deputy Director General at the Diplomatic and Consular Academy "Ernesto Pimentel Castillero" from 2018 to 2019, contributing to the training and professional development of Panama's diplomatic corps.
His diplomatic postings include serving as Ambassador to Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union from 2015 to 2018, where he played a crucial role in representing Panama's interests and fostering bilateral relations. Earlier in his career, Mr. Chiru Ochoa served as Ambassador to Germany from 2006 to 2009, and as Ambassador to Haiti from 1995 to 1996, where he represented Panama during pivotal periods in both countries.
Mr. Chiru Ochoa's career also includes significant roles within Panama's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as General Director of Foreign Policy from 2004 to 2006 and Deputy General Director of the Diplomatic Career from 2002 to 2004. He has also contributed extensively to Panama's international engagements, including his tenure as Head Representative at the Panama-China Trade Development Office in Beijing from 1996 to 2000.
Educationally, Mr. Chiru Ochoa holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Panama, Faculty of Public Affairs Management. He furthered his academic pursuits with a Master’s in Development Policy from the Centre Européen de Recherches Internationales & Stratégique (CERIS) in Brussels, Belgium.
