H.E. Mr. Juan Alberto Castillero Correa
H.E. Mr. Juan Alberto Castillero Correa is a Panamanian diplomat and lawyer who serves as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Panama to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. He presented his credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva on 8 October 2024.
Ambassador Castillero Correa has extensive experience in international diplomacy and multilateral affairs, particularly within the United Nations system. He previously served as Permanent Representative of Panama to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 2019 to June 2024, and he also held the same position between 2004 and 2009. Throughout his diplomatic career, he has represented Panama in various international forums and special diplomatic missions, including assignments involving bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation.
Before and alongside his diplomatic career, Ambassador Castillero Correa developed a professional career in law, with expertise in public and private international law, international agreements and treaties, maritime law, air law, corporate law, and public contracting matters. He has practiced law since 1975 and has contributed his legal expertise to matters involving international relations and state affairs.
He studied Law and Political Science at the University of Panama, where he obtained his law degree in 1975. He also pursued studies in French language and civilization, as well as private international law, at the University of Geneva. He is a member of the Panamanian Bar Association and the Maritime Law Association of Panama.
History
Through this mission, Panama participates actively in international discussions and negotiations related to human rights, public health, labour standards, international trade, humanitarian affairs, sustainable development and other areas addressed within the United Nations system.
The Mission serves as Panama’s diplomatic channel with the United Nations Office at Geneva and with specialized agencies and international organizations headquartered in the city. Its mandate is to promote and defend Panama’s interests within the multilateral framework, strengthen international cooperation, and contribute to dialogue on global challenges through diplomacy and constructive engagement.
Over the years, the Permanent Mission has played a role in supporting Panama’s participation in Geneva-based forums, including the Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization, the International Labour Organization, the World Trade Organization and other international bodies. Through its diplomatic representation, Panama continues to advance its foreign policy priorities and maintain an active presence in the international community.
