The Ambassador
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Husam S. Zomlot
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Husam S. Zomlot is one of the most prominent, high-profile diplomatic voices and strategic theoreticians representing the Palestinian state on the global stage. Born in August 1973 in the Shaburah refugee camp in Rafah, Gaza Strip, his personal and ancestral roots deeply inform his lifework in public policy, economics, and international sovereignty.
Ambassador Zomlot possesses a world-class British and American academic pedigree. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Birzeit University in Ramallah before pursuing advanced postgraduate research in the United Kingdom, where he earned a Master of Science in Development Studies from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a PhD in International Political Economy from SOAS University of London. He was later appointed as a Scholar-in-Residence and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
His extensive public career bridges the absolute apex of academic instruction, economic policy, and international statecraft. He initially served as an economist with the United Nations Special Coordinator’s Office (UNSCO) before moving into senior political advisory roles. He achieved massive international prominence serving as the Strategic Affairs Advisor to the Palestinian President and subsequently as the Ambassador and Head of the PLO General Delegation to the United States in Washington, D.C.
Appointed to command the London post in October 2018, his profound media literacy and sharp oratory skills made him an influential interlocutor in Western media. Following the landmark UK recognition of Palestinian statehood, he made history when he officially inaugurated the new Embassy of the State of Palestine in London, transforming his title into a full Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
History
Bilateral relations between Palestine and the United Kingdom are historic and rapidly evolving. Following decades of specialized advocacy and diplomatic presence under the banner of the General Delegation, a major protocol turning point occurred when the UK officially recognized the State of Palestine. The embassy commands an active, highly central chancery compound located at 5 Galena Road in Hammersmith.
The Embassy of the State of Palestine in London serves as a principal command center for executing high-level political statecraft, international law advocacy, and institutional resource development between Ramallah and Whitehall. Under Ambassador Zomlot’s executive leadership, a primary mandate of the mission centers on operationalizing the newly elevated full diplomatic status of the embassy.
The embassy works tirelessly alongside the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and parliamentary syndicates to navigate the ongoing post-crisis humanitarian landscapes in Gaza and the West Bank, aggressively pushing for reconstruction frameworks, medical evacuations, and accountability mechanisms under international law.
Furthermore, the mission drives expansive cultural and diaspora statecraft—consistently hosting academic forums, literary evenings, and historic commemorations to amplify Palestinian identity and heritage across British society—while running a modernized consular division that delivers vital documentation, civil registry verifications, and passport services to support the thriving Palestinian professional, student, and ancestral diaspora community residing across the United Kingdom.
