Amb. Innocent Alaoma Iwejuo
Mr. Innocent Alaoma Iwejuo is a highly accomplished, career diplomat who has served Nigeria’s Foreign Service across both bilateral and multilateral theaters. Known for his tactical acumen in international governance and trade negotiations, he assumed the leadership of Nigeria's Geneva mission as Minister and Chargé d'affaires a.i.
Over a career spanning more than two and a half decades, Mr. Iwejuo has built an elite track record. He has previously held prominent positions including Deputy Head of Mission at the Nigerian Embassy in Ethiopia and Deputy Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa. His diplomatic footprint also extends to key postings at the Nigerian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, and the Embassy in Brussels, Belgium (Permanent Mission to the European Union), alongside serving as Deputy Consul General in Atlanta, USA. His extensive experience in labor policies, economic affairs, and regional peace architectures makes him a pivotal actor in driving Nigeria's contemporary foreign policy agendas
History

The Permanent Mission in Geneva operates as Nigeria's frontline pipeline inside the UN Human Rights Council, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the International Labour Organization (ILO). Historically, Nigeria has leveraged its Geneva presence to champion equitable global trade systems, intellectual property frameworks that protect developing economies, and enhanced global health security. Under Mr. Iwejuo's stewardship, the mission actively prioritizes international labor standards, advocates for technical cooperation to combat regional migration issues, and aggressively lobbies for sustainable funding mechanisms to address public health and socio-economic developmental targets across Sub-Saharan Africa.
