Amb. Ram Prasad Subedi
H.E. Mr. Ram Prasad Subedi is an exceptionally skilled career diplomat with an outstanding record of service spanning over two decades within Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Backed by deep expertise in multilateral negotiations, international law, and regional cooperation frameworks, he assumed his strategic duties in Geneva with an elite professional reputation.
Before his ambassadorial appointment to Switzerland, Ambassador Subedi held several critical high-level positions in Kathmandu, including serving as the Joint Secretary of the South Asia Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he expertly managed complex regional bilateral ties. His extensive foreign service career includes vital postings at the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi, India, and the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York. Recognized for his analytical acumen and consensus-building capabilities, he has been a driving force behind Nepal's active engagement in human rights, refugee affairs, and sustainable development dialogues.
History
Nepal’s strategic footprint in International Geneva is profoundly defined by its identity as a peaceful, landlocked, and mountainous developing nation transitioning from Least Developed Country (LDC) status while navigating extreme vulnerability to global climate shifts.
The Permanent Mission in Geneva serves as Nepal's primary gateway to the UN Human Rights Council, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the International Labour Organization (ILO). Historically, the mission has punched far above its weight, having successfully served as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, where it advocated for a balanced, non-politicized approach to human rights. Under Ambassador Subedi’s leadership, the mission's core mandates focus heavily on championing the trade and transit rights of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), securing international technical assistance for a smooth LDC graduation, and raising global awareness about the specific impacts of climate change on mountain ecosystems (the "Mountain Voice"). Furthermore, the mission works closely with the ILO to ensure the protection and welfare of Nepal's massive migrant workforce abroad.
