The Ambassador
Amb. Omar Zniber
H.E. Mr. Omar Zniber is one of the most prominent, seasoned, and highly influential career diplomats within the foreign service of the Kingdom of Morocco. Holding a Doctorate in Public International Law, he assumed his duties in Geneva bringing decades of top-tier multilateral expertise and strategic leadership.
Before his high-profile assignment to Geneva, Ambassador Zniber served as Morocco’s Ambassador to Germany(2003–2011) and subsequently as Ambassador to Austria, Slovakia, and Slovenia (2011–2018), where he also acted as Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna (including the IAEA and UNODC). Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rabat, he has held critical positions such as Director of United Nations and International Organizations. In a historic milestone reflecting his immense global standing, Ambassador Zniber was elected President of the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2024, showcasing his exceptional capability to navigate highly polarized global geopolitical landscapes and build consensus.

The Permanent Mission in Geneva operates as Morocco's primary engine inside the UN Human Rights Council, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and major humanitarian bodies. Historically and contextually, the mission is a vanguard in shaping global migration governance (spearheading the Global Compact for Migration frameworks), driving South-South economic cooperation, and advancing regional security and counter-terrorism dialogues. Under Ambassador Zniber’s heavyweight leadership, the mission actively lobbies for equitable economic growth, promotes a balanced and universal approach to human rights, and works closely with WIPO to protect African traditional knowledge and boost digital innovation across the continent.
