H.E. Mr. Akillino Harris Susaia is a titan of Micronesian public governance and foreign policy. Boasting a career that spans over three decades at the highest levels of statecraft, he assumed his duties in Geneva with an unparalleled strategic record.

Before his deployment to Switzerland, Ambassador Susaia served as Micronesia’s Ambassador to the United States in Washington, D.C., playing a critical role in navigating the Compact of Free Association (COFA). Prior to that, he was Ambassador to the People's Republic of China in Beijing. Within the national cabinet in Palikir, he has held numerous ministerial portfolios, serving as Secretary (Minister) of the Department of Transportation, Communications and Infrastructure, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, and Administrator of the National Fisheries Corporation. Holding a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon, his deep expertise in maritime resources, infrastructure, and superpower diplomacy makes him an exceptionally authoritative voice in Geneva.

History

The diplomatic presence of the Federated States of Micronesia in International Geneva is anchored in a profound, existential mission to align global environmental, health, and human rights laws with the survival of low-lying island nations.

The Permanent Mission in Geneva acts as Mikronezja’s critical interface with the UN Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), and climate-governance frameworks. Historically, the mission’s strategic goals focus heavily on pioneering the concept of climate justice, protecting ocean ecosystems, and securing international public health support. Under Ambassador Susaia’s heavyweight leadership, the mission leverages his extensive background to advocate for the strict implementation of global emission targets, fight for the protection of maritime boundaries against sea-level rise, and secure technical and infrastructural assistance to shield Pacific communities from the escalating impacts of the global climate crisis.
