Berlin design week presents the work and ideas of international designers, companies, and educational and research institutions. However, the particular focus is on experimental projects combining research, industry, and business with creative disciplines. It’s about viewing design as a whole – not merely as an aesthetic discipline but rather as a means of finding solutions for societal, technological and ecological issues. The message stands for proving that designers worldwide can drive societal change and foster innovation through their work.

The theme of this year's festival is insights. The idea behind it is to encourage participants not only to present their latest projects but also to offer visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process.

The program is divided into few sections:

• NEXT, Young European Design
  NEXT highlights young European design talents who address forward-looking and sustainable design concepts in their work. The initiative by EUNIC Berlin and the BERLIN DESIGN WEEK impressively demonstrates how European design can influence social change and serve as a driving force for innovation.

• DESIGN + SCIENCE: A fusion of creativity and innovation
  At the heart of BERLIN DESIGN WEEK is once again the festival's DESIGN + SCIENCE format, which focuses on the central role of design at the interface to science and research with exhibitions, symposia and workshops. The format questions how design can function as a mediator of a culture of knowledge and as a central element of everyday life.

• DESIGN POOL design market
  Designers are once again invited to present and sell their crafts and products. The market offers a wide range of small series, special editions and new creations from interior, jewelry, industrial and fashion design. Special attention is paid to regenerative, sustainable and digital design.

• BERLIN DESIGN NIGHTS’
  It offers a showcase for the diversity of Berlin’s design culture. On two evenings, designers and studios will open their doors to present their work in their own spaces and invite people to exchange ideas directly. BERLIN DESIGN NIGHTS connects the design community and enables visitors to immerse themselves in the creative processes and experience the stories behind the innovations first-hand.

• BERLIN DESIGN DAY
  In ten best-practice presentations, the light will be shed on what makes the Berlin design scene so special. The program then includes networking, exchanging ideas and a guided tour through exhibitions on 4 floors in the industrial monument Peter-Behrens-Bau.
