H.E. Mr. Samba Mamadou Ba is an exceptionally senior, highly decorated career diplomat and multilateral technician within Mauritania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad. Born in July 1968, he possesses a stellar academic pedigree in international negotiations, holding a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nouakchott before reading International Relations and Diplomacy at The Ohio State University in the United States.

Ambassador Ba’s illustrious multi-decade career has positioned him at the center of Mauritania’s global economic alliances and security paradigms. He has held premier, heavy-hitting commands within the ministry’s headquarters, operating as the Director of American and Asian Affairs and later as the Director of International Cooperation. In these capacities, he directly structured cross-border development strategies, trade pacts, and security aid streams.

His extensive field postings span key global power centers, having executed senior diplomatic tenures in the United States, Sudan, and Japan. In early 2023, he was concurrently designated as Mauritania’s chief envoy to Singapore. Recognizing his elite administrative execution and sharp legal mind, he was strategically deployed to London, officially presenting his letters of credence to King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. In recognition of his exceptional statecraft and public service, he was awarded the Knight of the Order of Merit Medal in 2017. He is married and is completely trilingual, speaking English, French, and Arabic.

History

The United Kingdom now operates a resident embassy in Nouakchott, reflecting increased diplomatic engagement with Mauritania. Mauritania also maintains an embassy in London, giving the relationship permanent representation in both capitals. Contemporary cooperation has focused on economic links, maritime and fisheries interests, countering regional security threats and supporting wider international efforts in West Africa and the Sahel.
