Amb. Randolph De Battista
H.E. Mr. Randolph De Battista is a prominent and dynamic figure within Malta’s contemporary political and foreign policy landscape. A lawyer by training, specializing in European and international law, he transitioned into top-tier diplomacy with an extensive background in strategic communications and high-level public administration.
Before his ambassadorial appointment to Geneva, Ambassador De Battista served as a Member of Parliament in Malta, where he was a vociferous advocate for civil liberties, judicial reform, and social justice. Within the international domain, his prior experience includes vital diplomatic roles within the Permanent Representation of Malta to the European Union in Brussels and serving as a senior advisor during Malta's successful campaigns for international multilateral seats. Known for his modern, progressive approach to statecraft, he has been a leading national voice in driving Malta’s globally acclaimed legislative advancements in human rights and LGBTQI+ equality.

The Permanent Mission in Geneva serves as Malta's primary gateway to the UN Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Historically, Malta’s diplomacy in Geneva focuses heavily on pioneering global action on climate change (having originally introduced the concept of climate change as a "common concern of mankind" to the UN in 1988) and defending universal human rights. Under Ambassador De Battista’s leadership, the mission actively champions international protection for vulnerable groups, promotes global health equity, and collaborates with maritime and trade bodies to secure resilient, sustainable blue economies across the Mediterranean and globally.
