The Ambassador
Ambassador Georges Cohen
H.E. Mr. Georges Cohen brings a unique, non-traditional background to the Geneva diplomatic corps, spanning international business, high-level corporate management, and philanthropy. A French national by birth, he enjoyed a highly successful career in the IT and software industry, most notably founding and leading major tech consultancy firms in Europe. Following his corporate career, Ambassador Cohen transitioned into global philanthropy and international affairs. Recognizing his vast network and expertise in economic development, the government of Grenada appointed him as its Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva. His unique mandate focuses on bridging the gap between private sector efficiency and multilateral diplomacy. He utilizes his extensive business acumen to champion the economic interests of Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS), focusing heavily on sustainable investment and international trade partnerships.
History
Grenada’s diplomatic presence in Geneva operates on a model designed to maximize the influence of a small island nation within massive global institutions. Unlike larger nations with sprawling bureaucratic missions, Grenada's presence is highly focused, agile, and strategically aligned with economic resilience. The mission’s historical and operational focus in Geneva revolves almost entirely around trade development, intellectual property, and climate advocacy. Through the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the mission works to ensure that global trade rules do not disadvantage small Caribbean economies. Additionally, given Grenada’s vulnerability to climate change, the mission serves as a vital platform to advocate for international climate financing, disaster risk reduction, and the protection of marine ecosystems.
