The Ambassador
Amb. Antje Leendertse
H.E. Ms. Antje Leendertse is one of Germany’s most senior and accomplished diplomats, boasting a stellar career in multilateral diplomacy and global security. She assumed her duties as the Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations in Geneva following a highly successful tenure as Germany’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (2021–2024). Since joining the Federal Foreign Office in 1986, Ambassador Leendertse has held numerous high-ranking positions. She served as the State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office (2019–2021) and as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna (2018–2019). Her extensive experience also includes serving as the Federal Government’s Commissioner for Disarmament and Arms Control (2015–2017) and holding key diplomatic postings in Moscow, London, and Helsinki. She holds a degree in Medieval and Modern History, as well as Romance Languages, from the University of Cologne.
History

The German Permanent Mission serves as a cornerstone for European and global multilateral cooperation, interfacing daily with the UN Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Historically and in contemporary global politics, Germany’s diplomacy in Geneva focuses heavily on upholding international law, driving humanitarian aid, defending human rights, and managing global health crises. The mission is a key architect in shaping global trade regulations and international disarmament frameworks. Furthermore, Germany heavily utilizes its Geneva platform to promote sustainable development, climate diplomacy, and strong institutional responses to humanitarian emergencies worldwide.
