The Ambassador
Amb. Muhammadou M.O. Kah
H.E. Professor Muhammadou M.O. Kah is an exceptionally prominent diplomat, academic, and global technology leader. He was appointed as The Gambia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva in 2021 and has established himself as one of the most influential voices for digital transformation and African development in International Geneva. Before entering the diplomatic corps, Ambassador Kah enjoyed a stellar academic career. He served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of The Gambia (2009–2015), becoming the first Gambian to hold this position. He has held prestigious professorships and leadership roles worldwide, including at the American University of Nigeria, Baku Public Policy University in Azerbaijan, and various universities in the United States. In Geneva, Amb. Kah's expertise is highly sought after; he has served as the Vice-President of the UN Human Rights Council and Chairman of the UNCTAD Commission on Science and Technology for Development. He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Stevens Institute of Technology (USA) and multiple Master's degrees from financial and technological institutions.
History
The Gambia, since its return to a robust democratic path in 2017, has significantly elevated its diplomatic footprint in International Geneva. The Permanent Mission serves as a critical conduit for The Gambia's interaction with the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Historically and in contemporary diplomacy, The Gambia's presence in Geneva is deeply tied to human rights, transitional justice, and bridging the digital divide. The country gained immense international respect for its leadership in global human rights advocacy. Furthermore, under its current representation, the Gambian Mission is a powerhouse in discussions regarding digital inclusion, ensuring that developing and least developed countries (LDCs) are not left behind in the global digital economy. The mission works tirelessly to align multilateral trade, health, and technology policies with African development goals.
