Amb. Aichatou Sanni Aoudou
Aïchatou Sanni Aoudou is a Gabonese diplomat who has represented her country in the United Kingdom for many years. Alongside her London responsibilities, she has served as Gabon's Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization and has held additional non-resident accreditations in Northern Europe. She has also been closely involved in Gabon's engagement with the Commonwealth.
History
Bilateral ties between Gabon and the United Kingdom have entered a dynamic, highly cooperative era following Gabon’s formal entry into the Commonwealth. The High Commission commands a stately, historic diplomatic residence situated on Elvaston Place in South Kensington.
The High Commission in London acts as a vital command post for executing eco-statecraft, green development partnerships, and maritime shipping diplomacy between Libreville and Whitehall. Under High Commissioner Sanni Aoudou's leadership, the paramount focus of the mission is leveraging Gabon's membership in the Commonwealth to expand post-Brexit trade links and attract direct British capital.
Geopolitically, the embassy is highly focused on climate and biodiversity diplomacy. Because Gabon serves as one of the planet's most critical carbon sinks—with over 88% of its territory covered by pristine equatorial rainforests—the High Commission works directly with British environmental agencies and carbon-credit markets to fund sustainable forestry, eco-tourism, and conservation infrastructure. Concurrently, the mission’s consular section oversees streamlined visa pathways and business documentation to facilitate British logistics and energy consultants operating in Central Africa, while offering dedicated support to the Gabonese diaspora and academic cohorts across the United Kingdom.
