Amb. Luis Ignacio Vayas Valdivieso
Luis Ignacio Vayas Valdivieso is a career diplomat of the Ecuadorian Foreign Service with more than three decades of experience. A law graduate, he also studied international law at Stockholm University and has served in Ecuadorian missions in Sweden, Spain and Geneva. He has held senior Foreign Ministry responsibilities, including Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, and has played a leading role in international environmental negotiations on plastic pollution.
History
Bilateral ties between Ecuador and the United Kingdom are historic and profoundly deep, tracing their roots back even before Ecuador's formal declaration of statehood, when British legions supported South American independence. The two nations are celebrating 200 years of official diplomatic relations.
