The Embassy of Dominica in Geneva

The Commonwealth of Dominica became a member of the United Nations on 18 December 1978, shortly after gaining independence from the United Kingdom. Since joining the Organization, Dominica has participated in multilateral diplomacy with particular attention to issues affecting small island developing states (SIDS), including climate change, sustainable development, disaster resilience, ocean governance, and the protection of vulnerable economies.

As a small island developing state in the Caribbean, Dominica has used the United Nations platform to advocate for stronger international action on climate change and environmental protection, particularly highlighting the disproportionate impact of climate-related disasters on vulnerable island nations. The country has engaged through frameworks such as the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), where Caribbean and other island countries coordinate positions on sustainable development, climate finance, and resilience. Dominica has also participated in UN discussions on issues including biodiversity, disaster risk reduction, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Permanent Mission of the Commonwealth of Dominica to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva represents Dominica before Geneva-based multilateral institutions, including organizations working on human rights, trade, health, labour, humanitarian affairs, and development. The Mission participates in negotiations and discussions within bodies such as the UN Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and other international organizations based in Geneva.
