The Ambassador

Amb. Friis Arne Petersen began his work as the Ambassador of Denmark to Berlin in 2020. In 1994, Amb. Hyldelund graduated with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Aarhus School of Business.
She worked as Embassy Secretary in Washington, D.C. and as 1st Embassy Secretary in Warsaw. Before being appointed Ambassador of Denmark to Berlin, since 2017 she was State Secretary for Trade and Global Sustainability at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
History
Austria and Denmark established diplomatic relations in the 19th century, with relations continuing through the political transformations of Europe in the 20th century. Denmark has maintained diplomatic representation in Vienna for many decades, while Austria maintains an embassy in Copenhagen. The Danish embassy in Vienna also covers Austria’s relations with international organisations based in the city.
Relations between Austria and Denmark are friendly and stable, strengthened by their shared membership of the European Union, although Denmark is not part of the eurozone. Cooperation focuses on European policy, climate action, renewable energy, digitalisation, trade, and research. Both countries are active supporters of multilateral diplomacy and cooperate within the UN and OSCE frameworks.
Economic relations are strong, with Danish companies active in Austria in sectors such as renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, technology, and food industries. Cultural and educational exchanges, including cooperation between universities and research institutions, form an important part of bilateral relations.
