H.E. Mr. Aimé Clovis Guillond
H.E. Mr. Aimé Clovis Guillond is the Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Congo to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. He presented his credentials to H.E. Mr. Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, upon assuming his position.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Guillond served as Ambassador of the Republic of the Congo to the Russian Federation, while concurrently accredited to Finland, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Latvia.
Mr. Guillond has had a long diplomatic career within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of the Congo, which he joined in 1989. Between 2008 and 2012, he served as Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of the Congo in Brazil. From 2005 to 2008, he was Director of Diplomatic Protocol and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Earlier in his career, he held several positions within the Ministry, including serving as Head of the France Section.
Beyond the foreign ministry, Mr. Guillond also worked in the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Budget from 2000 to 2005, and in the Ministry of Agriculture, Farming, Water, Forests and Fishing from 1995 to 1997. From 1998 to 2000, he served as Diplomatic Counsellor at the Commission of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the National Assembly of the Republic of the Congo.
Mr. Guillond holds a degree in Public Law from the National School of Administration and Magistracy of the Republic of the Congo and a certificate in Communications and Diplomacy from the Institute of Public Administration in France.
History
The Republic of the Congo became a member of the United Nations on 20 September 1960, shortly after gaining independence. Since joining the UN, the country has participated in multilateral efforts focused on peace and security, sustainable development, humanitarian affairs, human rights, and regional cooperation, particularly within the context of Central Africa.
The Republic of the Congo has engaged with the UN on issues including peacebuilding, environmental protection, sustainable management of natural resources, and development cooperation. As a country with significant rainforest ecosystems in the Congo Basin, it has participated in international discussions on climate change, biodiversity conservation, and forest governance. The country has also contributed to regional stability efforts through cooperation with African and international organizations.
The Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Congo to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva represents the country before Geneva-based multilateral institutions, including those working on human rights, humanitarian affairs, health, labour, trade, and development. The Mission participates in the work of organizations such as the UN Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and other Geneva-based bodies.
