The Ambassador
Qi Mei
Ambassador Qi Mei serves as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Austria. Born in August 1971, she is of Han nationality and a dedicated member of the Communist Party of China.
Ambassador Qi holds a Master of Economics, which has equipped her with a deep understanding of economic issues that are vital in her diplomatic engagements and negotiations. Her academic background has provided a solid foundation for her career in diplomacy, where she has consistently promoted the interests of China and fostered bilateral relations with Austria.

History
Austria and China established diplomatic relations in 1971, and since then have developed a broad partnership based on political dialogue, economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and scientific collaboration. China has become one of Austria’s most important trading partners outside Europe, with cooperation particularly strong in areas such as machinery, technology, infrastructure, renewable energy, and innovation. Austrian companies have maintained a significant presence in China, while Chinese investment in Austria has increased in sectors including industry, logistics, and technology.
Beyond economic relations, Austria and China cooperate in fields such as education, research, tourism, and cultural exchange, supported by institutions including universities, cultural organizations, and business networks. Both countries maintain regular diplomatic contacts and engage through multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations.
