The Ambassador
H.E. Mr. Salomon Eheth
H.E. Mr. Salomon Eheth is the Permanent Representative of Cameroon to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. He presented his credentials to H.E. Ms. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, upon assuming his post.
Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Eheth served as Director of the International Relations Institute of Cameroon from 2017. Before that, he was Advisor to the President of Cameroon from 2000 to 2017 and served as Chief of the Service of Regulations at the Ministry of External Relations of Cameroon from 1989 to 2000.
A career diplomat and specialist in international relations, Mr. Eheth has participated in numerous meetings and negotiations within the framework of the United Nations, the African Union, and other international organizations. His diplomatic experience includes engagement in multilateral affairs and international cooperation. Mr. Eheth holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and International Law from the International Relations Institute of Cameroon, University of Yaoundé.
History
Cameroon became a member of the United Nations on 20 September 1960, shortly after gaining independence. Since joining the UN, Cameroon has maintained an active role in multilateral diplomacy, particularly on issues related to peace and security, sustainable development, human rights, humanitarian affairs, and regional cooperation in Central Africa. The country has contributed to UN peace and security efforts, including through participation in international peacekeeping operations, and has engaged with UN initiatives addressing development, governance, and conflict prevention.
Cameroon has also played an active role within African and international multilateral structures. It has served as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council (2002–2003) and has participated in UN bodies dealing with human rights, development, and international cooperation. As a Central African country, Cameroon’s engagement at the UN has included attention to regional stability, humanitarian challenges, climate issues affecting vulnerable communities, and cooperation within the African Group at the United Nations.
The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Cameroon to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva represents Cameroon before Geneva-based UN bodies and international organizations. The Mission engages on issues including human rights, humanitarian affairs, health, labour, trade, development, and international cooperation, including through participation in institutions such as the UN Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and other Geneva-based organizations.
