The Ambassador
Annonciata Sendazirasa
H.E. Annonciata Sendazirasa is a Burundian public official and diplomat serving as Ambassador of Burundi based in Berlin, with accreditation to Austria. She studied History at the University of Burundi and later completed postgraduate studies in Sociology at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.
Her career spans government, social policy and development. She worked with Caritas International in Belgium, served as a political and diplomatic adviser in the Senate of Burundi, and was Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Security from 2009 to 2015. She subsequently served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of the Republic of Burundi and in senior social-protection and public-administration roles before entering her current diplomatic assignment.
History
Austria and Burundi maintain traditionally friendly relations, with development cooperation forming an important part of the relationship. Austria supported projects in Burundi over many years, although bilateral programmes were interrupted during periods of political instability and later resumed as the peace process advanced. Cooperation has included social development, governance and humanitarian issues, while diplomatic engagement is also conducted through European and multilateral frameworks.
