Norazmi bin Pg Hj Muhammad has a senior background in Brunei's defence and public service. Before his diplomatic appointment, he served in the Royal Brunei Navy and rose to the rank of First Admiral, including senior command responsibilities. His experience brings a strong defence and security dimension to Brunei's diplomatic representation in the United Kingdom.
History
The relationship between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom is historically profound and highly specialized, shaped by decades of close defense cooperation and anchored by a shared commitment to regional stability in Southeast Asia. The High Commission operates from its grand, historic twin-building headquarters at 19-20 Belgrave Square. Historically, a vital foundation of the bilateral relationship is the UK-Brunei Defense Agreement, which governs the permanent stationing of the British Army Garrison (including the Royal Gurkha Rifles) in Seria, Brunei—a crucial security arrangement fully funded by the Sultan. Under High Commissioner Dato Aminuddin Ihsan’s authoritative leadership, the mission's core mandate focuses on advancing high-level military intelligence sharing, accelerating trade integration under the post-Brexit CPTPP framework, and managing massive sovereign wealth investments in the City of London. Additionally, the High Commission oversees a major educational operation, providing dedicated welfare and academic support to thousands of government-sponsored Bruneian students residing across British universities.
