H.E. Ms. Dk Mazlizah PG HJ Mahalee
H.E. Ms. Dk Mazlizah Pg Hj Mahalee is the Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. Prior to her appointment, she served as Director of the Trade Division at the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Brunei Darussalam from September 2018. She has extensive experience in international trade and economic diplomacy, having previously served as Director of the Department of International Trade at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade from 2015 to 2018.
Ms. Mahalee held several positions within Brunei’s trade and economic institutions, including roles in the Department of Trade Development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade from 2007 to 2015, where she served as Special Duties Officer, Assistant Director, and Deputy Director. Earlier in her career, she worked at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources. She also has previous experience in Geneva, having served as Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations Office at Geneva from 1999 to 2004, giving her prior experience within the Geneva multilateral system.
History
Brunei Darussalam became a member of the United Nations on 21 September 1984, shortly after gaining independence on 1 January 1984. Since joining the UN, Brunei has actively participated in multilateral diplomacy, with particular attention to sustainable development, international peace and security, economic cooperation, and the interests of developing countries. As a small, resource-based state, Brunei has consistently engaged in international discussions on issues affecting small states, including sustainable economic development, environmental protection, and regional cooperation.
The Permanent Mission of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva represents Brunei in Geneva-based UN bodies and international organizations. The Mission plays an important role in advancing Brunei’s interests in areas including international trade, development, human rights, humanitarian affairs, health, labour, and other areas of multilateral cooperation. Given Geneva’s importance as a centre for global economic governance, the Mission is particularly involved in engagement with organizations such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other Geneva-based institutions.
