The Ambassador
H.E. Rovshan Sadigbayli
H.E. Rovshan Sadigbayli serves as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Austria and Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Vienna. He is a career diplomat with extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy, international organisations, and Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.
Before his appointment in Vienna, Ambassador Sadigbayli held several diplomatic positions within Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including senior roles related to international organisations and multilateral cooperation. His work has focused particularly on Azerbaijan’s engagement with the UN system, the OSCE, and other international institutions.
History
Austria and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations on 20 February 1992, following Azerbaijan’s restoration of independence. Since then, relations have developed mainly around political dialogue, energy cooperation, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
The relationship is generally described as positive and pragmatic, with energy representing an important pillar of bilateral cooperation. Austrian companies have participated in Azerbaijan’s economic development, while both countries cooperate within international organisations based in Vienna, including the OSCE and UN bodies.
