Bernhard Wrabetz is the current Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the United Kingdom, appointed in 2023. As head of Austria’s diplomatic mission in London, he represents the President and Government of Austria to the Prime Minister and Government of the United Kingdom, with the rank and status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary. Austria has maintained a diplomatic presence in London since 1677, when a legation was first established, which was upgraded to an embassy in 1860, and since 1866 the Austrian ambassador at the Court of St. James has been based at 18 Belgrave Square, the permanent home of the Austrian Embassy.

Bernhard Wrabetz was born in Vienna in 1963. He studied history and French at the University of Vienna and trained at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. Over the course of his career, he has served at Austria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, held postings in London and Washington, and worked in Vienna as foreign policy adviser to the Federal Chancellor. He has previously been Austria’s ambassador to Portugal, Cape Verde, and India, and has held senior positions in arms control and European affairs. Wrabetz brings more than three decades of diplomatic experience to his current role, representing Austria’s political, cultural, and economic interests in the United Kingdom.
